ETHAN HORWITZ ELECTED BOARD CHAIR OF PLAZA JEWISH COMMUNITY CHAPEL

Nov. 23, 2022 — Ethan Horwitz, a shareholder at Carlton Fields in New York who has served on numerous local, national and global non-profit boards, is the new Board Chair of Plaza Jewish Community Chapel.

Horwitz has been a Plaza board member since 2010 and most recently served as Vice Chair. He succeeds Geoffrey Colvin, who served as Board Chair since 2018.

“Our compassion to individuals and their families — and, our commitment to the Jewish and broader communities — will continue to define us as we move forward,” Horwitz said. “It is indeed a great honor and privilege to serve and advance this institution and its sacred mission.”

At Carlton Fields, Horwitz applies more than 25 years of experience as a first-chair trial and appellate lawyer across the full range of intellectual property law. Listed as one of the top 50 trial lawyers in the US by Law360, Horwitz authored definitive works on patent litigation and trademark law, among other subjects, taught at Fordham University School of Law, and is a frequent lecturer around the world on intellectual property matters.

He has and continues to serve on boards of numerous non-profit organizations within and beyond the Jewish community, including DOROT, where he served as President for five years and is now a director, the Shalom Hartman Institute, where he served for over 20 years, and the Institute for Myeloma & Bone Cancer Research.

Horwitz is the fourth Board Chair since Plaza was founded in 2001 by individual philanthropists and Jewish organizations seeking to establish a community-owned not-for-profit Jewish funeral chapel. Besides Colvin, previous Board Chairs include Alfred Engelberg, who served from 2001-2010, and Harold Handler, who served from 2011-2017.
