The Plaza Jewish Difference

Crafted with Care

Our founders set forth on a Mission to be a service to the community in the most difficult issue, the end of life. To that end, Plaza has provided education and bereavement support around end of life conversation. And, of course, Plaza has provided dignified first class funerals without the profit motive.

Now more than ever, it is not just about our families receiving first class service, but also about satisfying all needs of the community surrounding end of life. From funeral services to purchasing monuments and inscriptions, to providing bereavement support and end of life education, Plaza is the leading voice for the community's end of life resources.

Taking the profit motive out of funerals has allowed Plaza to concentrate on the families instead of trying to sell upgraded services. It has allowed us to set up education around end of life, and it has allowed us to set up bereavement counseling and support.

We continue to appreciate the support and the ownership each of you on our Board and in our community has taken in Plaza as we serve our community with sacred and profound service.

Community Impact

Plaza offers the same high-level quality service as our competitors minus the profit motive, being the only not-for-profit funeral chapel in New York City owned and operated by the Jewish community. We provide a full range of first-class funeral services, monuments, and inscriptions, and have bereavement support groups, monthly drop-in gatherings, and weekly meeting groups run by Rabbi Amy Bolton and Amber Kienan, LMSW. Our high-level educational programming includes:

Taking the Mystery out of Death

Jewish Ritual at the End of Life

Getting your House in Order

Trust and Estate Planning and funeral planning in one easy session.

Since opening, we have been transparent about the high cost of funerals, leading other funeral homes to follow suit. Our award-winning podcast, Exit Strategy, covers topics ranging from the loss of a child to traumatic and ambiguous loss. Governed by a Board of Directors made up of clergy, community lay leaders, and social service agency executives, we have helped create a Reform Chevra Kadisha and amplify the importance of end-of-life conversations, evident in the various grants distributed to the community.

As Plaza moves forward serving the community we are mindful that each day when the phone rings.
