“What Matters” Year End Update (2016)

what_matters

This past year has seen What Matters’ numbers grow in terms of sites, trained facilitators, individuals engaged in advance care planning conversations, and organizations–both local and national–reaching out to learn more about our unique community-based program.

To our original group of sites: JCC Manhattan, The New Jewish Home, Central Synagogue, B’nai Jeshurun, and Kehillat Rayim Ahuvim, we have added four more: DOROT, Park Avenue Synagogue, Lincoln Square Synagogue, and West End Synagogue.  We recently held another training session so that we now have over 60 certified facilitators spread across the nine sites and 10 certified instructors who will ensure the replicability and sustainability of our program. The Pew Charitable Trust interviewed What Matters participants, and we expect to see What Matters mentioned in their report on advance care planning, to be published in the coming months.  The coming year will see: continued focus on marketing efforts; the creation of a Faculty position to ensure service quality and best practices across our expanding initiative; and increased programming both within our sites and for the larger Jewish community.
